TONBO MEADOW

pasture succession
modern house

Cluster subdivision for Fasse Bldgs. Planning for the Tonbo Meadow property began as an exercise in understanding the site and surrounding context. What is the site's ecological address? Where are the ‘buildable’ areas that would allow the LEAST amount of site disturbance? What's the carrying capacity for development given surrounding (sub)urban context? How can we consider connectivity of habitat, as well as human community? This project went through several iterations and several years of review! Named after one of its features (vs. what it displaces!). Tonbo means 'dragonfly' in Japanese.

3.14 acres + lots of contiguous open space and development density = 14 single family homes with character.  Here are a few photos and sketches.  You can find more house and interior photos on our Houzz page, here.
