Lara Berkley (Principal) is a native of northern Florida and attended Vanderbilt University for her undergraduate degree (B.S.) in Biology. After working in her parents' labs at Florida State University, she moved to Boston to attend graduate school at Harvard University (M.LA). Her thesis in Landscape Architecture was a zoo exhibit analyzing the role of barriers + fences in the visitor experience and manipulating the viewed/viewer relationship.
Following school, she moved to Seattle, working for various landscape architects, the Woodland Park Zoo, and eventually settling at BIOS, where she spent nine years designing learning environments for people + habitats for plants and animals.
As a founder of B+O, she is especially focused on interpretive habitats, landscape design, and the integration between exterior and interior spaces. She is a registered landscape architect, a LEED AP (Accredited Professional) and a current member of ASLA.
